The Merritt Centennials lost out to the Coquitlam Express last night 9- 2. The team is said to be out of the playoff contention. Things started going bad in the 1st period according to reports.

The Cents opened the scoring just 1:10 into the game after Rylan Van Unen picked a pocket at the blueline, danced in and rang a shot off the post that Daniel Tkac was able to find and fire into the partially open cage to make it 1-0. The teams traded chances until the 7:47 mark when the Express started to blast back. Greg Lapointe answered to tie the game, then that seemed to open the flood gates as the Cnts didn’t have any answers for the high powered Express. Will Margel, Josh Wildauer, Wyatt Head, and Cooper Connell all added tallies to put Coquitlam up 5-1 after 1. Ryan Winter was chased from the net after the 4th goal, with Marshall coming in for relief. Shots after 1 were 14-14.

Newly reorganized…

The team is said to have been reorganized for this year with few returning players. Perhaps the pressure will be off for remaining lame duck games. If there are any

However the team seems to be responsive to pressure as their most recent win was while short. Over thinking may be a dynamic here. The next game would have been February 15th in Merritt against Salmon Arm. The game is listed as if neccesary..

The local BCJHL junior amature hockey team

The local youth centered junior hockey team here in Merritt , The Merritt Centennials finished out of the play offs this season. Turned away by the  Penticton version Vees in a decisive  4 game fashion.

Some scuttlebutt about says that attendance is in in jeopardy over it. This team in its 40 odd years has weathered a lot of difficult times. Including  but it has fundamental support with an active booster club and business confidence. The production of young gentle people  has been great with several members making it to the big league after enjoying a career jump in the amature team here. Eddie Beers, Paul Kruse, and others have made significant lives for themselves coming out of this organization.

Season tickets for the 14/15 season are on sale now and a social event coming.

The next step in the progress of a hockey stalwart is  the spring  evaluation camp in abbotsford June 14/15/14

Lots of luck to number 94 Sam Johnson as the 14/15 Captain.

The local junior hockey team the Merritt centennials are done for the season. The team lost out to Penticton in 4 straight last week . A young man and member of the team from Ohio said he was grateful that they had made the playoffs and was philosophical about not making it to the finals. He said there was a player from Spokane Washington on the team as well, implying that he didn’t feel separated or isolated on the team.

The Merritt centennials are selling season tickets for the 42 season next year, at 115 dollars it is a great way to support youth in Merritt.

Stanley cup

The cup went pro in 1914, after a several years a mature hockey status. The same year that the great war started we presume that able bodied men competed for it as it was awarded every year in both great wars. Neither the Kaiser nor Hitler stopped fighting for the championship game , and the former Governor General of Canada ,Lord Stanley admonition that the park in Vancouver that also bears his name (and we would think his philosophical outlook on the cup), that it’s 1000 acres be enjoyed by all Peoples customs and creeds for all time went on deaf ears.

The cup was not awarded during the 1919 spanish flu epidemic  and in recent time  a players lockout kept it from being awarded. Now thats civil.

Would have been nice to see it back in the city that has the great park with his name on it.  Although the chauvinism of that time that spilled into so much grief in the great war is best not reenforced.

The series was a great entertainment and lots of fun. Outcomes are never a sure thing in that game.

editors note: trade  Vancouvers goalie would you….

Ben Franklin proves lighting is electricity.

Ehrhoff and Rome an opinion

It was good to see the two hockey players back in the game last evening. The win at the last moment was thrilling.

There was an evangelical calling for the end of the world to end on May 21, one day after the follow up of the legally required census here in Canada. When Ronald Regan was elected in 1980 the fringe said  that he was doomed as all presidents elected in a zero year have died in office. A similar dynamic to date pickers for the return of the good lord. Any serious theologian realizes that the imminent return of the lord is just that, imminent and made to remain that way for compliance to human rights and conditions by those that would abuse those things.

You can still meet your maker at any time crossing the street or in your bathtub slip and fall. However when Christian Ehrhoff and Aron Rome where taken out of the Canucks line up in the Western final,  I quipped about them being raptured out to make way for Armageddon and that must be the Stanley cup final.

We can have fun with that, it was just a coincidence ,however Revenue Canada is and the bankruptcy people are fond of using 666 and 007 in there scrutiny of assets. And the census date was a bit of a stretch.

Remember World War One was touted as being that war to end all wars by reasonable people. and things can easily get out of hand in the superstition realm. However they are back and playing well and the poetic remains as well as the former Governor General,  Lord Stanley, the initiator of the NHL’s prized cup with his name on it”s admonition .:” That it be enjoyed by all colors, creeds and customs for all time” as he dedicated another work the 1000 acres of park in the  City of Vancouver.   We can assume the same sentiment apples.

Superstition exists and it is a binding thing not helpful in the enjoyment of life, it has no place in hockey or work life as it is fear based. That is  something the charter of rights and freedoms restrains credible entities such as government from employing. No you didn’t do anything wrong to cause a loss unless it relates directly to the ability to perform ,like negligence of a duty that people rely on.

Improve your luck, look both ways crossing the street to Rogers Arena, and cheer the team on  giving emotional support to a team that is less dependant on it then preceding ones , they are champions.

The 7 game contests in  the finals is enough of an exposure to degrade to the mean all of the random inputs and luck to the standard of the skill in the teams. The Stanley cup is up for its 95th awarding since it went pro in 1914/15. It was not awarded in 1919 because of the spanish flu and 2005  because of a players lockout dispute, that was unlucky, however it has degraded to the mean  of being a much wanted symbol of hockey excellence;over time….
