Seven PM Start

The City of Merritt British Columbia at its Black Friday parade last night, November 24th 2023.

The parade started from Voght Park at 7:00 p.m. in dark conditions headed towards the center of town looped around the radio station building and continued back towards the West on Quilchena avenue. Dispersing in the area of the United Church.

The floats included the iconic concrete and lights number 13 door guards ready mix cement truck. Numbers of groups, businesses, and organizations.

The Grinch was there and his little green car was being towed by another float.

Numbers of children,dancers, walking greeters made for a lively progression.

The MLA had a decorated pickup truck in tune with the ruralness of her constituency. Jackie Tegart has been MLA here since May 2013 she has stated that she intends to run in the 2024 election.

TGIF- Friday payday, National Coffee Day.

The observable day today is “National Coffee Day” this bit of info comes from Starbuck. We had coffees there this morning and for a friday it was very busy. Must be true; of course for working guys that s probably true most day.

The photo below is of a Diamond Driller in the 1970’s and he had his coffee in a billy can on top of an airtight wood burner behind the tarp, in what was affectionatl your kown as the shack. Long ways from the comfort of a modern car and a Starbucks stop. However coffee worked then as now without the need for much society or with society.

Coffee is multitasking every day and in every way.

Leah demonstrates the new game toss at the downtown tourist info center known as the Bailee house,2202 Voght Merritt BC.

Built by Leonard Male the activity consists of two boards and four bean bags. The object is that three ends and the person that gets the most in the hole or closest to the hole is the winner.

So, come to the property and enjoy sitting under the maple trees and playing bean bag toss.

This is an excellent exertion for those that may be a little on the disabled side there’s no contact it’s absolutely safe and it’s a fun activity because you’ll do it with somebody.

Bye the Bye the city is at level one restrictions for watering. Check even or day at city merritt.ca

Editors note

As of August 3rd 2023, the city of Meredith is following level 4 water restrictions to protect the water levels in the cold water river as it relates to fish.

Watering is allowed twice a week for plants and gardens but not lawns.

Merritt was looking for a theme at one time,it remains a multi purpose economy.

The local people of Merritt are very much keen on contemporary country and western music, as well as Rock and Roll.The Desert inn in Merritt has a mural of “the King” on its southern side.The mural was done by Michele Loughery of Vernon, an acclaimed artist, at the hight of the Merritt Mountain music festival Era two decades ago. The mural has been edited to remove a 50’s Era chev car and a Shell gas pump.

Rodeo Grounds

The rodeo grounds in Merritt are on the SW side of town, 499 Lindey creek road with its Fall Fair building ancillary.

The local fall fair building brings the farming community together at the end of summer every year and was the original loggers sports venue KDG file photo.

Water

The City of Merritt has not put restrictions on water as they would normally on May 1st, instead they are relying, on provincial drought regulations which at this writing do not have any restrictions on the two rivers in Merritt.
