Friday the 18th 2019 two female astronauts arte going out on a space walk from the ISS. Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will replace a power controller that failed recently.
The Chinese rover carried a biosphere with a number of plants to try to grow on the Lunar surface. Initial reports said that the experiment failed, however it is being reported that they briefly grew cotton before the plants froze. The activity was in January 2019 and a mission from Israel and India since have had limited results and failed landings since.

The Fall equinox came September 23rd at the same time all around the world, (that’s equal). In the middle of the night at 12: 50 AM ( 7:50 UTC) the North American continent stood up straight to the sun and then began right away to tilt on its 23 degree travel away to the winter solstice. Have a great fall!
Within the hour India will be attempting to land on the Moon. The mission has been going on for a month since launching and is targeting the South Pole.
Watch for a confirmation of water shielded from the sun on the pole.

The Cultural Capital of Europe is announced for 2018.
Look for meteors from the Perseid shower in early August. The peak will be early mid August and sources say that moonlight will be a problem. ( Can be overcome!)
Peak will bring up to 150 meteors and hour. Comets come from the direction of the Perseus constellation, hence the name. Tonight at midnight the shower will be 44′, altitude 35.6. (44 degrees from true north azimuth, height is degrees over horizon, from Kamloops BC.)
Clear sky August 3rd to 6th Merritt BC
Partly cloudy tonight however not enough to block all showers. There will be good clear sky in Merritt August 3rd – 6th.
Someone say you should shower more often, maybe they meant Meteor shower. The Earth is intersecting rocky and ice debris fields at times of the year including the Delta Aquariids in late July. In early August there will be Perseids to be seen…
Moon free skies…
There is an advantage to darker skies when viewing meteors as well as being in an area free of ground light pollution. Merritt has a number of excellent places to view night skies.

At @8:54 AM Pacific Daylight Time tomorrow morning summer begins for us in the Northern Hemisphere. There will be about 16 and a half hours of daylight making it the longest day of the year. Then the daylight will decrease until the fall equinox.
The Moon will meet Saturn on the mornings of April 24th, 25th and 26th.
On the mornings of April 24, 25 and 26, 2019, watch the moon as it travels away from the king planet Jupiter and toward the ringed planet Saturn. Although Saturn is easily visible to the eye alone, you need a telescope to view its majestic rings.

Earnest Shackleton and 5 others attempt to rescue the crew of the Endurance.
Israel has joined 7 others in orbit around the moon and will soon join three dominate countries by landing on the earths orbiting cousin. The landing will be attempted on Thursday April 11th with their Beresheet space craft. The attempt will be between the hour of 7-8 AM Universal time. ( 12- 1pm PDT on the west coast.)
In position now
A crucial six-minute engine burn was performed on April 4, in order to reduce Beresheet’s velocity relative to the moon by about 620 miles per hour (1,000 kph) – just enough for lunar gravity to capture the spacecraft and prevent it from simply sailing past the moon. Beresheet’s orbit now has a high point of 6,213 miles (10,000 km) and a low point of 310 miles (500 km) above the moon’s surface. It will continue to settle into a circular orbit of about 124 miles (200 km), before it begins its descent.
The northern part of the Artic ( Devon Island ) is going to be used by Goggle and Nasa to help understand conditions on Mars. This from Earth Sky news.
A crewed mission to Mars might be a long way off, but researchers are busy preparing, nonetheless. One of the best ways to prepare is by training scientists and testing new technologies in some of the most Mars-like locations on Earth, simulating the experience as much as possible.
