Royal Tour

Royal Visit

The 2nd in line to the throne of Great Britain is touring the country with his new bride.

I was involved in a royal tour in 1971, our regiment was not a Duke or royal sponsored one. The Rocky Mountain Rangers. However about a decade later in a return visit the Prince Philip bestowed some world war one battle honours on it in Kamloops.

The crown has a very complex way of ensuring loyalty among regiments and was their stock and trade in chauvinistic times. We are glad the world moved on from that but   still enjoy its residue in  a historical sence.

The local PO was locked out as of yesterday. Two workers one with a flag were walking the sidewalk  in front of Canada posts building here.

When asked they said that the issue was safety and pensions in particular pensions for  workers in the union that are not full-time employees. They worry that leverage is used with them to gain concessions amongst the full timers.

The government has now tabled legislation to order them back today.
