Level one hundred:
We started playing the Game Gardens of Time on Facebook more then 2 years ago. Having seen Treasure Island to its timely end and tried many others for a time, we concentrated on the game in part because of its designation of the 2011 online game of the year.
The game has you build a garden that is historical and supervised by A Gardens of Time Society. Starting with Ancient Egypt it allows for various themes ancient to current. You may play for points or enjoyment of the cultural and esthetic value or both.
Like the practice of some First Nations to leave out a bead from art work to communicate that nothing is perfect the gardens program has some out of place objects in the locating hunt themes that get you coin to buy garden structures.
The engagement of distant relatives and new unknown social contacts was broadening experience , The game is fun and socially,historically and geographically reenforcing.

The local swimmg pool is down for maintenance. The Nicola Vally Aquatic Center shuts down every year at this time for about a month on maintenance. Pallet jacks from Nicola Chain saw rentals and pallets of ‘supplies and materials are evident this morning.
The Nicola Valley Aquatic Center hosts the Merritt Otters swim Club that has a yearly regional meet here that s popular, the local; club has had serious success in its operations including involvement by former MLA Dave Chutter and family.
A source says that along with regular maintenance is a new floor covering a epoxy sand cover that looks like a beach. One souce thinks it is a hundred thousand dollar job and the floor has not been done for 18 years.
Editors: note the Nicola Valley Aquatic center and arena are flagship in the rec program in Merritt and are held with a lot of pride.

The Petro Canada was offering premium gasoline at regular price this week as they were out of the regular grade of gas.
Premium gas was going for one dollar and forty five cents a liter. The Petro Can is at the corner of Voght and Belshaw avenue.
Today the price is back to normal and regular gas is available.
The 6 cent spread in price is said to be worth it in lots of applications and according to a motorcycle enthusiast especially in the performance of motorcycles. The cost additional cost on a fill up would be something over a dollar.

The local qualifying Rodeo is on again for the 55th year here.The event features a local Clown,Jayson Charters will be keeping riders safe from revengeful bulls.

BC ambassadors, 2013
Three new, one year term BC Youth Ambassadors were chosen to represent the province on Saturday night. Casey Helgason from Kamloops, Lauren Sherwood from Ossoyoos and Camella Vokey from Penticton, all became ambassadors at the conclusion of the three day event at the Merritt Civic Center.
Bailey Allen a former BC Ambassador from Merritt worked as judge for the first time.

The Coldwater Hotel on the corner of Quilchena and Voght is the hotel that has seen most of the post contact history of the city of Merritt. The Hotel was established in 1908 nad is now under a new owner John Allison a D jay and MC has ” Proprietor” on his business card. The hotels tagline is: The finest taste of history in Merritt.
The Hotel is in need of a paint job however in holds the confidence of many in the restaurant and pub. Recently I talked to a traveler enjoying a steak in the Pub . He and his wife had been around the world in a MG sports car .

The hydro ( or a consultant) here in Merritt are checking old manholes for compatibility for water lines today. A source says the real work to is a duct pack in the Voght street and the burial of the power lines that now are on the west side of the road. He also says that the top like goes to a substation in the highland valley and is high voltage up to 63000 volts.
The single line sits atop some ageing power poles at this time.

The Shell Station on the top of the hill on Voght Street is selling gas at 1/10th of a cent less than the competitors about. The Petro Canada across the street remains at 136.9 and the worker there says that it does not seem to make a difference.
The side of the sign at the shell station that faces the pumps says 136.9.

The city crews have blocked off the parking lot next to the RCMP station and the Ball fields. The parking lot is being paved over not with new asphalt but recycled asphalt from a highway repair area. The material has gone through a grinder and is laid out without new oil and rolled untill it has a flat and usable appearance. The parking lot at the local kin park was done in this way a few years ago and has proven durable for the speeds and loads it was subjected to by the picnicking public.
Thats one for the Canadian Eco footprint.
