Rock collection, Percy on Mars, how much longer?

Perseverance Mars Rover

Pet Rock

Twenty five years of rovers.

The perseverance rover, the 5th of 5 landed rover on Mars was expected to last at least 2 years.

The landing on February 18th 2021 was the beginning of the rovers science phase. The program included a small drone helicopter and an interest in volcanic tubes, as well as looking for signs of life.

The names of the last five American rovers are Sojourner, Sport,Opportunity, and Curiosity,

Tiawem 1 China Mission

On May the 15th 2022, The Chinese People’s Republic Landed their rover called Zhurong. The probe landed in the Utopic plain on May 18th 2022. This was close to the 1976 landing area of the US Viking lander.

The Chinese have reported finding water with their mission. There our reports that both the probe and the Chinese government have been silent since September following the main landing.

Pet Rock 🐶

There are multiple reports that a stone was on the base of the vehicle and it didn’t get picked up by accident “tongue on cheek.’ People called it Percy’s pet rock, I guess the distinguish from the mission collection of rocks that are intended to be brought to a place to be retrieved by a landing and returning vessel within the next decade.

So, the pet rock is now gone and it’s left to us to wonder if Percy has an attention span problem. Nasa is asking the question ™ will Perseverance last? ”

Enough levity

The surface of Mars is subject to winds and sand with dirt having overtime polluted the solar panels of rovers making them shut down until providential wind (if that’s the right word) comes along and removes it to give it another charge. This maybe the case.

Many vehicles have been to Mars over the last five decades, it was probably a little more than a holding pattern when the man missions to the Moon stopped about the same time and now relevance is back because there’s a manned mission going to the Moon to make a permanent presence there and an ability to travel to Mars with man missions from the Moon. The world will never be the same, good luck.

August 16th 2022

The new heavy lifter,Orion rocket in the Artemis program started its journey at the cape on the 16th of August 2022.

The launch is scheduled for the 29th of August 2022 and will propel the Artemis 1 with its crew module around the Moon and return to Earth make a reentry unmanned and without the risk to the four persons ‘lifes’ that will crew Artemis 2 to a landing on the moon and return in 2024 or 2025.

Mission Mars

The ultimate goal always couched in scientific experiments and knowledge gathering is to use the moon as a base to continue on to deep space with more than likely its first visit of human beings to the planet Mars

Monday November 26th the 8th successful Mars landing by NASA was concluded with the transmission of a photo. The Craft has a 2 year mission and unlike rovers will do it from the same place. The lander is straight and level in what appears to be a flat plain. It will transmit data to two Nano satellites that followed the craft from earth. The 7 month trip from earth is part of a  commitment to learn the secrets of rocky planets such as ours . A  mole ground penetrator hammer will slowly punch a hole down while measuring temperatures to depth. The lander will also listen for geo disturbances such as quakes. Mars is estimated to be 4 billion years old, a little older then the earths 3. 6 billion and is considered relevant to knowing secrets of our type of planet. There are 4 rocky planets in our solar system Earth, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. Uranus has been demoted to a planetoid, the remaining are gas giants.

Blue Planet

Mars is imagined by some to have once been a blue planet with lakes and water bodies that were lost in time. The Earth keeps its water and atmosphere by the effect of the magnetic field on it in part. Gravity and the weight of clouds also keeps the sun from burning off the planet.

Yesterday the private space corporation Spacex sent its Falcon heavy rocket into space and placed a payload in space ( a cherry red tesla sport car owned by Elon Musk).
On this Day: February 7th 1907

The Falcon heavy rocket has nearly three times the payload capacity as the retired space shuttle. With 27 engines and two rocket boosters that successfully landed after use. The rocket is the most powerful in use to day. Not since the days of the Apollo program has a heavy lifter been used in this league.

The risk was great in the mission and the odds were 50/50 of a successful launch according to Musk.

Yesterday’s exciting and admittedly risky launch, SpaceX says, could mean game over for its private space company rivals. The Falcon Heavy will provide the United States a heavy-lift capability in space not seen since the Saturn V rockets of the Apollo era. source earth sky news.

The old 100,000 dollar Tesla roadster, was released and sent on its way to  No word on any way of controlling the vehicle with its space suited dummy (named Starman) behind the drivers wheel or if  it would survive a trip to Mars. It is apparently in orbit around the earth.

A trip to Mars mission with the heavy lifter should take 6 months to cover 54.7 million KMs trip ,which includes and an asteroid belt will be in its path.

The mission is deemed experimental and risky. Look for a landing of the main rocket making it reusable to measure this flights success.
