Thirty percent drop in demand May 2020. 100 % demand for line…

The Covid-19 restrictions caused a drop in demand and perhaps will change habits and expectations for consumption.

The size and complexity of the global crude oil market has expanded significantly since the Trans Mountain Pipeline entered service in the 1950s. Canada is the fourth largest oil producing country globally, behind the United States, Russia and Saudi Arabia and approximately equivalent to Iraq in terms of daily oil production. Canada’s oil consumption is comparatively small, so our nation is a net exporter of petroleum products and crude oil. Canada has the third largest proven crude oil reserves globally behind Saudi Arabia and Venezuela as a result of the approximate 170-billion-barrel oilsands. Export of crude oil and refined products has been, and will continue to be, a significant economic impact for Canada.

TM today

In 2019, global crude oil and liquid hydrocarbon production and related demand was nearly 100 million barrels per day. The COVID-19 pandemic decreased global demand for oil roughly 30 per cent by May 2020[1]. Implicit in studies such as the Internal Energy Agency (IEA) on Global Demand see support for an expected recovery in demand, however, the pace of recovery is unclear given the uncertainty associated with the course of the COVID-19 virus[2]. Even in this difficult year of 2020 with reduced global demand resulting from COVID-19 and lower oil prices, the Trans Mountain Pipeline has continued to be full, with demand exceeding the current capacity.

Did you know that there was a geo magnetic storm in December 2020? BC hydro has plans for such events, including preparation…

The world wasn’t quite ready for the geomagnetic storm that arrived just over three decades ago. When the northern lights were spotted as far south as Texas and Florida on March 13, 1989, some wondered if – with memories of the Cold War still strong – that a nuclear first strike had been launched. Others thought maybe it had something to do with a U.S. space shuttle mission.

Neither was true, but the geomagnetic storm had a dramatic effect in Quebec, which lost power for nine hours after the variations in the Earth’s magnetic field tripped circuit breakers in Hydro-Québec’s power grid. Another storm on August 16, 1989, halted all trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Electrical utilities now have programs in place to reduce the risks associated with geomagnetic storms, including the one that struck Earth on December 11, 2020.

“We were expecting a medium to strong storm, but the [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] downgraded the storm,” says BC Hydro spokesperson Mora Scott. “Even so, we prepare for all geomagnetic storms. They can cause serious damage to high voltage transmission systems, leading to outages.”

Nasa says that we are entering cycle…

There is an 11 year cycle to the sun spot activity caused by magnetic storms on the sun ( sun spots). The storms send particles by the earth showing up as Northern Lights. The good news is that these particles reflex sunlight back to space cooling the earth. So long as the storms are not to strong they help to give us a better environment and a pleasant visage of lights on the dark horizons. After about 11years the cycle ends with a period of calm on the sun.

If you have concerns about EM pulse from these things it might be good to have some good old cash in your emergency supplies ,as the electronic can go out in an event.

Can electromagnetic pulse hurt humans? An EMP or Electro Magnetic Pulse is a wave of electromagnetic radiation. An EMP does not directly hurt people, but an EMP interacts with power lines, metal, conductive materials and electronics and causes power spikes.
