So, here is a photo of the BC Hydro quick chargers on Voght and Merritt Avenue in Merritt BC.

Standing to attention like a couple of Royal guards as the snow blankets them this week. They look like they’re satisfied for some reason if that’s possible with an innate objects.

Net 30 the cry the response was hard won material support, and over time BC Hydro has done well in proportional advacacy to the cause.

All and all the little bit of snow at the right time in the right season makes our hearts go soft for all the right reasons. Being a responsible person in this world includes the environment and work and providing and numbers of things; so have a great season and don’t let the little things bite you.

A thought worth reposting…

Looking forward to New Year’s in and bright future for all.

Electrifying

So, it seems that the world is coming around a bit. The la Nina severe storm generator is working to bring up cooler water from deeper parts of the ocean and cause weather fronts to move it inland.

And, a carbon tax is taking up tariffs on carbon imiting oil reserves ( when burnt). So, we have been watching and waiting for the catastrophic sea level to rise.

Not terribly dramatic the drought is more of a sense of attention than sea levels. We know that the seas were about 300 m shallower at the top of the last ice age when a mile high or 2 mile high or more in some places sheets of ice covered North America. So did that translate into how the seas were going to rise with current global warming,? I watched as island states in the South seas were marked as going under. On examination it seems those things move regularly because of the sand that composes them.

Then I  thought back to when our family business partnered with a couple other drillers to do the preliminary exploration work  drilling on the site C project in British Columbia, Canada. My thoughts were tossed and since we finished decades ago and it’s been under construction for decades and now at this very moment is being filled with water. However, because of drought conditions, it’s not taking any water out of the system or the land, but it’s taking it from Williston lake. The WAC Bennett reservoir.

Although there is a greater efficiency with the new project, it’s a moot point about water because the drought is a concern that needs to be dealt with in a measured way and they certainly can do that. And we can cooperate when we are asked to preserve water and or be part of solutions for that sort of thing.

But, it raises in my mind questions about the abundance of water when it’s mixed with oil. We know oil doesn’t mix with water. We have as a society that with licensing through our government has given a lot of oil leases that have drilled lots of holes in the ground and pumped out lots of oil over the last few decades and guess what?

That oil was burned and put in the atmosphere. Some it was taken up again by trees but lots of interest to me is that nobody has ever raised the issue of what is taking its place in the ground. Of all that oil being pumped out.Yes we know that oil and water don’t mix but where there’s a hole there’s going to be water put down it and I presume that the oil will work its way to the top of it and the water will be underneath it in most respects. I’m not a geologist but I’m sure somebody must have studied that.

Then, the question of the carbon tax and its relationship to the availability to the market of tar sands oil. Now Tar sands  oil isn’t pumped from big holes in the ground. It is mined refined  and sands put  in back filled pits so that would preclude the loss of groundwater, we would take.

But we’re not experts, but we think that would make tar sands oil more attractive to be used in place of huge amounts of pooled oil?  It wouldn’t be pumped from the ground and replaced with groundwater, which it seems at this point we are suffering for.

Now, we are still not experts or giving you a lecture. It is somebody subjectively thinking what the hey; is it true, could have the environmental impact of tar sands been underlooked for this dynamic of groundwater disappearing and exacerbating drought conditions.

At any rate, the sight C project will be generating power this fall sometime and it’ll be using water from Williston lake that would have gone through the aging WAC Bennet  Dam . So dam  it anyway, what way  water. ( I am sure it goes through both) Double dipped, but will it be back?

Cooler homes,Cleaner Oceans.

So there are 900, 000 power poles in the province of British Columbia supporting power lines bringing regulated electrical power to homes and businesses. This is according to BC hydro in their quiz that they’re currently offering to win prizes as a reminder that June is national electricity month.

More energic time, re sun…

In 2019 the sun started an 11-year sunspot cycle according to NASA. We just had a mass ejection on the sun and there is still a chance to see some energetic green aurora this weekend.

The strongest part of the storm and the best time to see the Northern Lights is expected to arrive between 5 and 8 p.m. ET on October 30, according to the NOAA’s predictions.

If the northern lights can be seen tonight, it will be low on the horizon. The rotation of the earth makes it hard to predict.

Suits the Country…

As reported by TechCrunch in July 2018, aviation currently accounts for four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. With this flight, Norway announced plans to do their part to cut into that number and fly all short-haul flights from its airports on electric planes by 2040. While current models of the Alpha Electro G2 aircraft only seat two people, multiple companies around the world are working on plans to develop commercial-ready electric aircrafts. No commercial airplanes are currently in the production stages of development, but the officials believe they will be ready in time to be implemented prior the the self-imposed 2040 deadline.

Norwegian officials believe the goal is possible due to the layout of the country’s airports. Commercial airports are spread across the country but the vast majority connect via short flights on smaller aircrafts, making it a viable step towards the country’s goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

100 million cars off the road…

A concept that immediate relief may need 100s of millions of cars off the road may not be that far away for North America. Rotating seasons of use restrictions by imposing mandated even odd day licence plate use may be a proactive measure to curb consumption. That measure would surely produce reliable data on cause and effect. Something to think about on our next 50 degree day. Were all in this together!

Transit is an option, including air transit where it fits. The saying we will overcome this by hard work, and application of good morals , and a little belief may not work on the macro level but in spots it still flies.

2018 a record year for EV sales in he US.

A 64 % increase in electric vehicles in the US in 2018 added over 2 million EVs being used in the US. The world wide number of EVs is something over 2 percent. The current EVs can be enjoyed and have a stand alone carbon foot print about 3 time lees then fueled cars. Watts per meter value goes way down manufacturing from scratch and if you generate electricity where you are by burning fossil fuels. In any case they are enjoyable to some people and surely don not poison your immediate life space like fuel can. Norway came into 2021 with 49 percent of sales being electric this is somewhat by decree however the coercion is probably because it suits their situation, and the population agrees with it. That sort of thing does not fly as well in our North American culture. Choice still remains supreme.

Tesla sold 160,000 units in 2019

Tesla is still the driver in some of this, selling 160,000 units in 2019. The projection for the US is 20 percent of sales by 2027 how much of its share tesla will have is likely to decline with most manufactures having a EV product in the sales..

Cars in operation in the US.

At the end of the 4 quarter in the United States there were 281.4 million cars in operation. They did not punt to EV that quarter as they never have as yet in substantives way.

We recommend purchasing a n EV at this time as they can be very enjoyable safe and effective if you plan your consumption of power.

Enjoy an electric aircraft if you can.

The same goes for EV planes be an early opted person for a EV plane it should be enjoyable and maybe can replace your car. The first FAA approved EV plane was the Alpha Electro in 2014. It it had nothing to do with the Bob Cummings show in the 50s and 60s and everything to do with reality. What ever that is.

Prune to 3 meters: BC Hydro…

These trees didn’t grow

Plan when planting and prune to a three meter gap from power limes. BC Hydro says power can jump a gap of up to 3 meters.

Three meters…

Electricity has the ability to arc across a gap from its source (the power line) and electrify objects within three metres. This can include you, the tools or ladder you’re using, and parts of the tree, leading to serious injury or even death. That’s why keeping a safe distance is always important.

Planting near power lines: BC Hydro

There are some special considerations when planting near power lines to help avoid potential issues, like the tree falling on the power line during a storm, or growing into the line.

Here are some important tips to follow before you purchase new trees or hedges for your property:

Different trees for different space.

The three zones to be aware of before planting a new tree in your yard.

Right hight right light.

Low zone: This area extends five metres on either side of the power line. Trees planted here should have a maximum mature height of six metres or less.

Medium zone: This area extends from the edge of the low zone to a distance of 10 metres from the pole and power line. The maximum, mature height of trees in this zone should be 12 metres. Overheight trees in this zone cause the majority of outages.

Tall zone: Once you’re in an area more than 10 metres from power lines and poles, virtually any strong, healthy tree is fine to be planted in this area.

The public utility may be ablr to help with hydro bills according to their newesletter of July 31 2020.

COVID-19 resulted in financial hardship for many of our customers, particularly those that experienced job loss, had to close their businesses, or were otherwise unable to work. To support our customers, we provided the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The fund was available from April 1 to June 30, 2020 and it provided eligible residential and small business customers with three months of financial relief on their BC Hydro bill. The program is now closed.

For customers who weren’t eligible for the COVID-19 Relief Fund, we offered the COVID-19 Customer Assistance Program, which allowed you to defer bill payments or arrange for flexible payment plans with no penalty. This program is closed as of June 30, 2020.

Although these programs have closed, we’re still here to help. If you had overdue payments and were facing disconnection prior to any additional financial hardship that arose from COVID-19, you may be eligible for a Customer Crisis Fund grant of up to $600.

There is apparently a catch up payment plan and a phone number lniked to the picture above.

BC hydro has recommended a number of videos and literature to find out about some of the first peoples culture:

  • A Tribe called Red Ft black bear : You tube
  • Indian Horse : You tube
  • The Road Forward: NFB you tube.
  • The Orange Shirt Story : Good read ( hydro)

The founder of Orange Shirt Day, Phyllis Webstad, shares her story about her experience in a residential school. On top of the trauma she experienced at the school, they didn’t let her wear her favourite orange shirt that her grandmother bought for her. Ever since, she’s associated the colour orange with the trauma of living in a residential school. She took this dark history and turned it into a children’s book, transforming it into a story of hope and education.
