Elements

Particles are what we are…

Not all chemistry is safe.

Matter is composed of tiny particles called atoms, which are made up of even smaller components such as protons, neutrons, and electrons. These particles interact through various forces, leading to the formation of different elements. Atoms of the same element have the same number of protons in their nucleus, defining their unique chemical properties. When atoms combine, they form molecules, which can be simple, like the oxygen we breathe, or complex, such as the DNA that carries genetic information. Each element is characterized by a specific type of atom, distinguishable by its atomic number. This fundamental understanding of matter has paved the way for various scientific discoveries and technological advancements.

We think very highly of the Chinese and British Columbia

The group provided the dangerous labor of using nitroglycerine in building the CPR and the CNR and that brought British Columbia into confederation. They adjusted well to the immigrant status and complied to some legislations that limited them to restaurants laundries and other service industries. However we cal the dry good store in Merritt that was constructed in the 1920s and run by local Chinese for many many decades. The building at the corner of Hope Street and canford avenue didn’t survive the aftermath of the November 14th 2021 flood in Merritt BC.

Thanks to Brenda Wong, for years of exemplary service has she managed the Canada Cafe in the downtown of Merritt and provided a richness to the culture and an inclusion to this little city.

Happy British Columbia, family day, holiday.

For the bunch

So happy to acknowledge the importance of the family to all those that have them.

However their loss and non-appropriation that happens in a chaotic world from time to time is a terrible loss.

However close the blues close your eyes close the minds of discontent. Your loss is more then perspective as gets out of this world without loss, balance sheets of win lose, profit and gain, current and past do little. The key is your feelings at any moment; not to be denied because you won’t know any different because you own those feelings and you’re better than glum. So stay calm and carry on and don’t let outside influences determine your feelings.

May long weekend is t.h.e usual planting time for us at 600 meters.

The thing you can do for these creatures is to leave off planting as long as possible, use no pesticides, leaveing organic waste from the year before helps this process. Butterflies eggs can be on bits of paper in the garden area as well.

Leaving a garden conducive to butterflies involves several practices. Here are some tips to create a butterfly-friendly environment:

  1. Delay Planting: Consider delaying your planting as long as possible. This allows butterflies to benefit from the natural environment and find suitable habitats.
  2. Avoid Pesticides: Refrain from using pesticides in your garden. These chemicals can harm butterflies at various stages of their life cycle.
  3. Use Organic Waste: Leaving organic waste from the previous year can benefit butterflies. This material can provide shelter and nutrients for butterflies and their offspring.
  4. Be Mindful of Eggs: Butterfly eggs can be located on various surfaces in the garden area, including bits of paper. Keep an eye out for these delicate structures and handle the garden with care to safeguard them.

By following these practices, you can help support the well-being and habitat of butterflies in your garden.

Wild horses

Recently we asked a keeper of a bed and breakfast to west of us if they are still about and this unconfirmed source said that he understood that Highland valley Copper fed them with hay about 4 years ago .That was the last he heard and has not seen them since. however he still believes that he three groups are there.

When I viewed them decades ago they looked like regular horses except that their manes were very long and the hair on the tails touched the ground.

There are no wild horses indigenous to North America as they came from Europe with Cortez centuries ago . Horses in the valley are descendants of  horses that were either let go or ran off. They are truly wild though as like an elephant and his stake they would need to be broken to be of use in riding or work.

Wild Horses and Highland Valley Copper

The Nicola Valley is home to 3 groups of wild horses. About four decades ago, a bunch from Canford, an old sawmill and town site about 9 miles to the west on highway 8, was featured in a magazine article in The Star Weekly. These horses were also seen on Promontory mountain just to the west of Merritt.

A keeper of a bed and breakfast to the west mentioned that Highland Valley Copper fed the wild horses with hay about 4 years ago, but hasn’t seen them since. Despite this, he believes that the three groups are still present in the area.

The wild horses in the valley resemble regular horses, but with very long manes and tails that touch the ground. It’s interesting to note that there are no wild horses indigenous to North America; they are descendants of horses that were either released or escaped, and are considered truly wild.

The relationship between the wild horses and Highland Valley Copper seems to be one of the factors influencing their presence in the area.
